|Are you a Bible reader? Have you ever wondered about the Apostle Paul’s “thorn in the flesh, messenger of Satan?” If so, then you are going to like this book. For as long as I have been reading the Bible as a part of my daily discipline, I have been perplexed by Paul’s statements in 2 Corinthians 12:5-10, a passage commonly referred to as his “thorn in the flesh.” What was it? How did he get it? Who sent it to him and why? What was it doing to him that he would describe as “torment?”
It was in April of 2011 that I set out to find the answers. After two years of research, journaling, editing, reading, contemplation, and prayer, I have completed my quest and published my findings for your reading pleasure.
I have to believe that there are other Christians out there that would want to know the truth about Paul’s thorn. Think about this: There is only one time in New Testament Scripture when Jesus said ‘no’ to an earnest request; am I the only one that finds that odd? In His days spent here on earth, Jesus gave sight to the blind, healed multitudes of people, raised the dead to life, and delivered many from demon possession; why say no to the Apostle Paul?
What I can tell you upfront is that I ventured out to find a few simple answers for my own personal satisfaction, but what I found in the process was something that I am compelled to share with you.
This book, brothers and sisters, is my offering to you. Please do enjoy!
|I wrote this story during the Christmas season after attending an annual women’s dinner at my church. The festive time fit in perfectly with the rhythm of the holidays, and I knew the setting would make an excellent first scene in a Christmas tale. Two of the main characters, Lindsay and her elderly friend Ruth were consuming my thoughts a few days later. Their sweet friendship was delightful to imagine, and although I didn’t know where their story was headed, I knew I wanted to be along for the journey.
Sorrow came to our family before Christmas arrived. My father-in-law passed away, and the weeks that followed were a unique time of enjoying the holidays and grieving the loss of a close family member. We tried to go on and celebrate Christmas the way we knew he wanted us to, and writing this story was one of the ways my soul had rest during that time. I found comfort in writing about these characters who also struggle to find a balance between joy and grief. May their story encourage you to find contentment in the difficult realities of life and ongoing hope for better days ahead.
Home For Christmas; A Christmas Story:
It’s Lindsay’s favorite time of year. Bound for her childhood home in the central mountains of Washington State, she is looking forward to spending two weeks with her family as they enjoy the holidays together. Some changes are on the horizon, however. One is joyous and fitting for the holidays, but another doesn’t fit at all. The loss of a loved-one at Christmas? How can it be, and how can she cope with tragedy at a time like this?
Her family grieves the loss with her, and God has some unique ways of turning her heart toward the silver lining. But will she have the faith to believe in the blessings He’s had in mind all along? After waiting so many years to find her true love, can a bizarre turn of events lead her straight to him, or is it all too good to be true? Will she allow the grief to be replaced with unparalleled joy or shut down her cautious heart and remain alone in her confusion and despair?
“Home For Christmas” will delight your heart, make you cry, and remind you of the faithfulness of God. Even when our circumstances are beyond our control, they are never beyond His ability to turn our hearts back to peace, joy, and the unpredictable journey of going deeper into His love.
|Are you the type of person who wonders about the afterlife and where you will go after you die? Do you ever wonder about the very purpose of life itself? I am that type of person, and I always knew that there had to be more to life than the day by day drudgery of working, growing old and then dying. During the 1970s my analytical mind kicked into high gear, and I was overcome by an insatiable desire for truth. I came to the conclusion that I had absolutely nothing to lose and much to gain in my quest for truth. I knew that one day I was going to die, and I wanted to be ready for that day. I saw that some people died in their youth while others lived to a ripe old age, but they all had one thing in common, they all died. Even if a person lived to be one hundred years old, what is that in the spectrum of eternity? What does it all mean? It means absolutely nothing.
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? It is even a VAPOUR, that appeareth for a little time, and then VANISHETH away. (James 4:14)
As a young man I would pick up a Bible and flip through the pages, wondering what it was all about. There were so many different books within the Bible, and often the print was so small that before long I would put it back on the table again. Perhaps you have tried in the past to understand the Bible, but you also came away frustrated and bored. I know how you feel because I have been there and done that. I have often wondered “What does this have to do with me?” I am here to encourage you to give the Bible another chance, and hopefully you will be able to put the pieces together for yourself as the Lord blesses your understanding. I remind you that it is my goal to show you, through the Scriptures, that Jesus Christ is the One whom you are looking for, though you may not realize that now.
The subtitle of this book “Biblical Proof: Jesus Christ is the Only Way to Heaven” speaks for itself, and this book is chock full of passages from the Bible, which prove that Jesus is the only way to Heaven.I have also included snippets of my personal testimony throughout the book. It is my hope that I will save you some of the time and trouble that I went through in my search for truth, and I pray that you will come to know the real Jesus Christ.
